Why security vulnerabilities expand beyond operating system, enterprise Friday, 20 May 2005, 21:38 GMT Much has been made about the latest SANS Institute security vulnerability list and its indication that Microsoft's Windows operating system is no longer the only software under heavy fire. While some are highlighting the fact that other platforms, particularly Apple and Linux, are being increasingly targeted, SANS Institute director of research Alan Paller said the biggest overall change in the latest security holes is a departure from targeting operating systems to the targeting of applications.
