picoChip, Hifn unveil WiMAX basestation reference Friday, 20 May 2005, 19:52 GMT Network security chipmaker Hifn and picoChip, a reference designer for wireless equipment, today launched the picoChip's picoArray processor and Hifn's 7956 WiMAX security processor, together providing a complete WiMAX basestation reference design for 802.16e applications. The two companies claim the architecture future-proofs the IEEE 802.16d standard as it evolves to the e revision, and the Korean WiBro standard, accelerating market acceptance of 802.16 by enabling carriers to deploy fixed WiMAX and still maintain the ability to implement a soft upgrade to mobility with 802.16e.
