Click Commerce Granted Innovative Database Security Patent
Publication date: Thursday, 19 May 2005

Patent Provides Customers Enhanced Security for Collaborative Commerce

May 18, 2005, Click Commerce, Inc. (Nasdaq: CKCM), a leading provider of collaborative commerce solutions and a pioneer in the Software as a Service (SaaS) industry, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued the company a database security patent for its Business Suite 7.5 sales and order management software. This software provides customers with the ability to configure and administer security policies among a varied and dynamic set of participants, improving operations and overall business efficiency.

Business Suite 7.5 provides automatic security access to data within an application based on the specific security parameters set up by a customer. These parameters grant or deny access according to criteria designated by the customer administrator, removing the need to constantly monitor security access rights to the database. With Business Suite 7.5, administrators can rely on the parameters they have designed to monitor a system, and do not have to re-configure access rights for each new entrant.

“Traditionally, access control lists have been notoriously difficult to manage, especially as the number of users continues to grow. At times it becomes almost impossible to manage all the access rights to a very large system,” said Charlie Boyle, staff vice president of research and development for Click Commerce, Inc. “Our Business Suite 7.5 addresses this problem by providing administrators with a powerful tool that allows them to configure specific rules that grant user access to a system, as opposed to granting access on a case-by-case basis.”

In the modern business world it is quite common to find multiple companies collaborating on a single project, or to have different users from a variety of distinct departments or locations using one database. While many individuals may need to access specific parts of a particular system or database, administrators may not want to grant complete system access to every user. Click Commerce’s Business Suite 7.5 allows administrators to grant different access rights to a multitude of different users, restricting access to sensitive information systems based on each user’s functional relationship and needs.

“Our software helps Global 1000 companies communicate sensitive information to all levels of users,” said Michael W. Ferro Jr., Chairman and CEO of Click Commerce. “This patent validates our commitment to providing secure software for use throughout our customer’s channels.”
