10th Anniversary Of Infosecurity Europe Is Best One Yet! Publication date: Wednesday, 18 May 2005 The 10th anniversary of Infosecurity Europe at London’s Olympia confirmed the show as Europe’s most comprehensive convergence of information security professionals with an 18% increase in pure Infosecurity Europe visitor numbers and a 13% increase overall to 10,874 attendees (onsite figures pre-ABC Audit). There was a buzz in the air as you entered the show to find 259 stands packed with visitors keen to investigate the latest security technology. With 108 companies exhibiting for the first time, there was plenty to whet the appetite of those hungry for new solutions, and they were not disappointed with the innovations as on display were over 120 new product launches at the event. Proving the international nature and importance of the event, 884 overseas visitors attended the show and one in ten visitors spent at least two days seeing round the exhibition. One visitor stated, “Unfortunately due to heavy work commitments I only managed to attend for one day, which I am now glad that I did as it was very informative and I made very good contacts. I am looking forward to the next show and this time I know I will need to attend all three days” another echoed this view ,”Fantastic, attended for two days and well worth the effort of travelling”. Over half of the visitors were IT Directors and IT Managers, and 21% were senior executives at Director level or above. Visitors came to the show to help them make a decision about the purchase of security solutions and 70% either influenced or made the final purchasing decision. According to show research the majority of visitors were looking for new products (96%) and technologies (88%), many came to actually see the latest developments from their existing suppliers (96%) and also to look for new suppliers (64%). "After 10 years of Infosecurity Europe it is now evident that IT professionals and business executives come to the show to help them develop information security strategy and policy and find the products and solutions to enforce it. The free education programme featured many of the most experienced and respected speakers in the industry who normally can only be seen by delegates at paid for conferences. The keynotes and seminars were again filled to capacity with visitors who had a thirst for the “inside track” on the latest issues and how to resolve them. With over 250 vendors, visitors were also able to compare “best of breed” solutions in one place, to help them decide which products and services will be the most effective to protect their corporate assets. Our visitor research found that the vast majority of visitors came to find new solutions and eight out of ten left satisfied with what they found.”, said Claire Sellick Event Director of Infosecurity Europe. More than two thirds of visitors attended to learn from the education programme where 121 of the world’s eminent professionals from the information security arena gave keynotes and seminars. Speakers at the event had this to say about Infosecurity Europe 2005: Andrew Yeomans, VP Global IT Security, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein commented “The high level of interest I and the Jericho Forum experienced at Infosecurity Europe 2005 shows how information security is emerging from its Middle Ages. As information warfare firepower renders our corporate “castle walls” obsolete, business opportunities will rapidly develop, as our walled villages transform into information cities.” Andy Mulholland, Global CTO, Cap Gemini, stated "There are times it seems hard to get out of the office. It's only when you are at an event of this type that you realise how much is going on. It's not just the stands or the products, it's also the chance to meet, talk and share experience. After all it's hard to find out by using the internet, because people who use security well are invisible." Stuart Okin, Associate Partner, Accenture commented “This year’s show has been truly exceptional, both in size and quality. The sheer number of products and expertise has been outstanding. We believe that this is one of the premier events in the information security calendar.” George Thompson, Director, Info Security, KPMG stated "Infosecurity Europe continues to provide our firm with the chance to meet and share thoughts with the best of the industry, all under one roof." Visitors found the education programme extremely useful, their comments ranged from “Very interesting, it's good to get information on problems that I didn't even know we had!” to “Great - has given me a new focus” and “Good line up and spread of topics addressing the security needs of organisation's in today’s ever changing market.” Sellick continued, “Exhibitors’ stands were packed with visitors for the whole three days but we all know it’s not just volume but quality! Judging from exhibitor feedback, both quality and quantity were in abundance and Infosecurity Europe 2005 delivered a large audience who were knowledgeable, knew what they wanted, and had come to the event to make a selection of the best solutions for their organisation. The demand for exhibitor stands for 2006 has been so great that we had sold nearly every stand by the last day of the show.” The exhibitor’s response shows that it was one the best show ever: "For the fifth year running, the event has proven to be an ideal platform for Microsoft to join with its industry peers and partners to address IT security issues. The level of interaction between industry stakeholders provides an ideal forum for knowledge-sharing and technology development that will help our customers to stay on top of security." Nick McGrath, Head of Platform Strategy, Microsoft Ltd "Excellent Show - a lot of hot end-user and channel leads. There's a good few months worth of business from the show. We've already booked for next year." Ian Kilpatrick, Director, Wick Hill Ltd InfoSec 2005 was the most successful yet for IBM. Around the demonstrations on our stand we saw a huge increase in validated projects over last year, with organisation genuinely expressing a need for our technology to address their security business needs.
