Ships Offsite Replicator Software for Asynchronous Replication over WANs

San Francisco, CA, May 18, 2005 – Nimbus Data Systems, Inc. (www.nimbusdata.com) today announced the release of Offsite Replicator, an optional software feature for its latest series of iSCSI storage systems. Offsite Replicator uses powerful asynchronous replication technology to provide the industry’s most affordable, end-to-end disaster recovery solution based on IP storage area networks.

First in Disaster Protection for Midsize Organizations

A recent study showed that 94% of businesses that suffered a complete data loss where out of business within one year. At the same time, backing up to tapes and shipping them offsite is an arduous process filled with risks that does not provide rapid recovery in the event of a site-wide disaster. The need to meet stringent service level agreements and new compliance requirements demands offsite data replication, but few businesses can afford or administer the costly and complex solutions offered to date. The new Nimbus software protects against unforeseen disasters and their financial consequences with a cost-effective replication option that can be deployed in an afternoon.

Nimbus Offsite Replicator runs on the iSCSI storage array, completely transparent to applications and requiring no ongoing maintenance. Using asynchronous replication, data is continually copied to a secondary system up to 200 km away using inexpensive WAN connections. Since only block-level changes are replicated, bandwidth costs are minimized. If a network outage occurs, a built-in logging feature allows for immediate resumption of replication once the connection is restored. IPSec and standard firewalls ensure the security of the replication without requiring costly dedicated lines.

Availability and Pricing

Customers can add Offsite Replicator to their Nimbus IP SAN by upgrading their license key for $2,500 per system. A complete IP SAN for disaster recovery, including 1.6 TB of capacity and all of the necessary software, starts under $30,000, including three years of comprehensive Silver Support.
