Call for Participation Opens for the First Annual O'Reilly European Open Source Convention

Sebastopol, CA--Building on the success of OSCON--a.k.a. the O'Reilly Open Source Convention--planning for the very first O'Reilly European Open Source Convention (EuroOSCON) is underway. The call for participation is now open and speaker proposals are being accepted until May 23. EuroOSCON will be held at the Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on October 17-20, 2005.

EuroOSCON's theme is "The Future Is Open." The convention targets the specific needs of European developers and programmers, helping them to deliver the benefits of open source technology in all its variations to their companies and organizations. The program committee, chaired by Nathan Torkington, is seeking proposals that focus on sharing best practices, and helping corporations, government agencies, and non-profits to seamlessly integrate the best and newest open source technology.

The convention focuses on all aspects of building applications, services, and systems that use the new capabilities and showcase the diversity of the open source platform while maintaining a practical edge. Mature technologies will be featured alongside newer and less developed technology, allowing attendees to take in the full range of open source's capabilities.

Tracks and topics at EuroOSCON include:

- Linux, other open source operating systems, and applications
- Java
- PHP
- Python
- Perl
- Databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Ingres, MaxDB, and SQLite
- Security
- Emerging Topics: AJAX, SOA, Wireless, mobile, p2p, visualization,
patents, licenses, business models, sociology, privacy, and more

EuroOSCON attracts developers, systems and network administrators, and their managers from diverse organizations. Attendees have a wide range of experience, from beginners to expert users. Proposals for sessions (45 or 90 minutes long) and tutorials (3 hours or 6 hours long) are deeply technical, either focusing on code or giving practical architectural advice. Marketing presentations are not accepted.

In addition to sessions and tutorials led by open source experts and luminaries, EuroOSCON will also feature plenty of time for informal networking, entertaining evening events, and an exhibit hall filled with relevant products.

Attendee registration opens in late June 2005.
