Hackers try to scupper Hong Kong rally
Thursday, 1 July 2004 16:04 ESTComputer hackers have tried to scupper a likely huge pro-democracy rally in Hong Kong by issuing emails saying the protest would be postponed, march organisers said. The hackers sent out the messages Wednesday headed ": July 1 rally will be postponed to July 4 due to bad weather", rally organiser the Civil Human Rights Front said. The emails, sent using one of the Front's addresses, contained a document, which when opened, warned that the rally -- which is expected to attract some 300,000 people -- would be put off.
"Some people are using this low-down means to try to cancel our rally," said Front spokeswoman Jackie Hung, stressing that the march through downtown Hong Kong would definitely go ahead.
