Microsoft Corporation, the world's largest software maker, announced the acquisition of Massachusetts-based Groove Networks Inc.
Groove’s technology allows co-workers to share documents, manage projects and communicate with each other remotely through so-called “virtual offices”. It will help Microsoft to extend the brand of its market-leading Office product line.
Groove Networks Inc. was founded by Ray Ozzie, a co-creator of Lotus Notes, in 1997. He will serve as one of three Microsoft’s chief technical officers, reporting directly to Bill Gates.
Microsoft and privately held Groove did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
