The Home Office has followed the US Department of Homeland Security and launched the IT Security Awareness for Everyone (ITsafe) site, which is aimed at protection of home users and small businesses from malicious software and hacker attacks.
The site will provide to its subscribers a free alerting service through e-mail or SMS. The alerts will explain potential problem and instruct users how to avoid it. According to the Home Office, they will be written for regular users as opposed to IT professionals.
Home Office Minister Hazel Blears said: "There is a clear need for easy-to-understand and simple independent advice for non-technically minded people who use computers either at home or at work”.
The Government expects to issue 6 to 10 security warnings a year based on the recent statistics.
