Proof – Remote Working Can Save The World Publication date: Thursday, 05 May 2005 Siroconnect Users Save 4,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Emission During March GreenWatch Report Shows UK Companies Using Virtual Global Networks to Pursue Carbon Neutral Targets Weybridge, Surrey, 5 May 2005 - Sirocom, the leading virtual network operator, has today unveiled the true value of remote, flexible working, finding that over 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have been prevented by its users in the last month alone. Its new GreenWatch Report provides an insight into UK-based organisations’ communications usage, demonstrating that greater use of communications technology and applications, and a reduced onus on business travel, is contributing towards the ultimate goal of becoming ‘carbon neutral’. The GreenWatch Report - Sirocom’s ongoing research project - is intended to provide a regular public update on the changing social and environmental implications of remote and flexible working. It bases its findings on usage data from the Siroconnect service. “We encourage UK organisations to take all possible measures to reduce their impact on the environment,” said Simon Rogan, Managing Director of Sirocom and the author of the GreenWatch Report. “The GreenWatch Report identifies the scale of emissions that can be nullified by avoiding unnecessary commuting and business travel without impacting business productivity.” Today’s report details usage during the period 1st April to 1st May 2005. Highlights of the report are as follows: - In all, 440,048 user sessions were recorded - Sirocom estimates that 4,290 tonnes of carbon dioxide otherwise discharged through business travel or commuting were saved by its users - Siroconnect usage increased in many Western countries, as more workers spent time working flexibly over the Easter school holiday period - The busiest day for Siroconnect usage was Sunday the 3rd April “Our intention with the GreenWatch Report is to raise awareness about companies’ responsibility toward the environment and how the use of technology can bring about significant reductions in emissions,” says Rogan, adding; “moving forward, we hope to introduce new findings on the other implications of flexible, mobile working.” About Sirocom Sirocom is a Virtual Network Operator (VNO).
