Gravity Storm Software Announces Windows Firewall Management
Publication date: Tuesday, 05 April 2005

SAN DIEGO April 4, 2005 – Gravity Storm Software, a leading provider of Windows patch management solutions, today announced the release of the latest version of Service Pack Manager (SPM) v7.0 which now includes functionality to manage the Windows firewalls on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 network machines.

Microsoft has included Windows Firewall with the new versions of Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1. By default, it is configured with most ports closed. This configuration creates problems for IT professionals who need not only to remotely manage these machines, but also make them capable to provide a variety of services to the enterprise LAN.

With the latest version of SPM, IT professionals can automatically detect all the machines on the network running Windows Firewall. They can easily and quickly scan these machines, determine which of the machines are in compliance with user-defined Windows Firewall policy. The compliancy checks are performed at the level of allowed/blocked ports and programs and are indicated in the scan results. The Windows Firewall policy can be distributed throughout the enterprise with a click of the mouse.

The software offers intuitive User Interface and simple, yet powerful and flexible, operation that saves time, effort and money when dealing with the configuration of individual or groups of machines which are now running their own firewall. Service Pack Manager does not require use of Active Directory, Group Policies or scripting. The product’s learning curve is short and ease of use makes it accessible to all levels of IT skills. Configuring Windows Firewall on hundreds or thousands of machines takes only minutes due to the simultaneous execution of policy updates on each of the target machines.
