AirDefense Redefines Wireless Security with Anywhere, Anytime Intrusion Protection
Monday, 8 November 2004 18:13 ESTndustry's First "Self-Managing" Wireless Protection Available with AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 and AirDefense Personal
Atlanta - November 8, 2004 - AirDefense, the leader in anytime, anywhere wireless security and monitoring today announced the extension of automated wireless network protection with the release of two new offerings. AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 introduces the industry's first Self-Managing™ intrusion protection system (IPS) providing automated protection for wireless threats. AirDefense Personal is a Windows-based software module that works with AirDefense Enterprise, and protects the mobile worker. The combined solution enables organizations to efficiently protect enterprise information assets automatically from nearly 200 threats at anytime not only within the four walls of the enterprise but globally as well.
"With AirDefense, I sleep well at night knowing that my network is protected from rogue wireless devices," said Bo Mendenhall, information security analyst with University of Utah Health Sciences Center. "We see hundreds of rogue stations and access points around our campus and trying to determine which one poses a security risk is like finding a needle in a haystack. What I love about the latest version of AirDefense is its ability to pinpoint if a rogue is on my network and the ability to do something about it immediately."
The Self-Managing capabilities of AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 allow enterprises to configure the system to manage itself, including identifying security risks, rogue devices, policy violations, level of threat, location of threats and automated mitigation via wire or wirelessly. Requiring minimal administrative intervention, Enterprise 6.0 enables management by exception and produces improved protection and efficiency for the IT department.
"AirDefense pioneered the wireless monitoring space and continues to lead the market because of our singular focus and in-depth expertise to deliver solutions our customers require today," said Anil Khatod, CEO and President of AirDefense. "With Self-Managing IPS, network and security managers can now be assured of enterprise security even as organizations become more virtual in nature."
Because today's networks are virtual with mobile employees extending the edge of corporate networks to hotspots and airports, AirDefense has expanded its anytime monitoring solutions to include AirDefense Personal. AirDefense Personal resides on mobile users' computers and quietly monitors for malicious or accidental wireless activities and wireless misconfigurations that may cause security exposures or policy violations. If threats are discovered, AirDefense Personal notifies both the user and AirDefense Enterprise. AirDefense is the only solution to extend wireless protection to mobile users enabling organizations to secure their extended enterprise.
"The use of wireless LANs and mobile workforce is on the rise; so is sophistication of wireless threats and attacks," said John Girard, a leading security expert at Gartner. "Mobile users could get duped by hackers phishing for credentials or other sensitive information at hotspots and must be protected."
Features and Functionality
Anytime, Anywhere Protection
AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 and Personal, together enable organizations to secure their wireless networks wherever users connect. With a centrally defined and managed mobile security policy, automated protection can be provided to users anywhere around the globe. This provides wireless network protection anywhere at anytime making wireless networks inherently more secure.
Advanced Rogue Management
The AirDefense solution automatically analyzes rogue devices and pinpoints those that present the highest level of threat. Using our patent-pending technology, AirDefense has the ability to distinguish a rogue connected to the internal network. This empowers security managers to confidently use AirDefense mitigation tools to eliminate the threat either on-command or automatically.
Active Defenses from Wireless and Wired Side
Using policy-based active defenses, organizations using AirDefense can automatically stop illegitimate wireless activity and devices anytime, anywhere. This prohibits unauthorized network access and automatically closes backdoors created by intruders. AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 also enables organizations to take action from the wired side of the network and disable a wireless device on-command or automatically.
Location Tracking
AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 enables enterprises to quickly and accurately record, visualize and analyze the location of wireless devices. This enables administrators to immediately determine the exact physical location of any threats.
AirDefense "One Click" Analysis
With a single click, administrators have the ability to investigate or analyze the wireless activity or security incident of any device across the enterprise. AirDefense technology enables administrators have powerful information available on device connectivity and activity as the device roams through the network. Administrators can view communication history and real-time activity to diagnose security or operational issues.
Pricing and Availability
AirDefense Enterprise 6.0 and AirDefense Personal will be available by the end of the month. Pricing depends on the size of the organization, and starts at $6995 for 4 sensors and a server covering a 100,000 square feet facility.
