99.999% platform uptime reliability paired with fastest growing high-availability server operating system

MAYNARD, Mass., 24th October 2005 - Stratus Technologies, Inc. announced today that Red Hat Enterprise Linux will soon be available on models of its Stratus® ftServer® series of continuously available servers. Under the terms of the agreement signed with Red Hat, Stratus will support Red Hat Enterprise AS, which is designed for business-critical application environments such as database, ERP, and CRM.

"Our relationship with Red Hat opens up much more of the high-availability server market - a large and growing market - to the option of running the Linux® operating system on what is arguably one of the most reliable server platforms available today," said William Drury, Stratus vice president of Software Engineering. According to a recent report from IDC, the worldwide high-availability server market is growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.3 percent through 2008, with the Linux server portion alone growing the fastest at a CAGR of 63 percent during the same period.

The fault-tolerant technology that enables 99.999-plus percent availability on Intel®-based ftServer lines resides in the Stratus system software layered between the OS and the application and in Stratus-designed chipsets. Virtually any application for the Linux operating environment will run unchanged and unmodified on a supported Stratus fault-tolerant server.

"Our large ecosystem of ISV partners and customers will be pleased to have a new and highly differentiated server platform ready to run Red Hat-certified applications, especially in the mission-critical environments for which our AS distribution is designed," said Ed Boyajian, vice president of Global Alliances at Red Hat.

Stratus will provide ftServer systems with Red Hat Enterprise Linux support to both its telecommunications and enterprise (banking, securities, manufacturing, public safety, etc.) customers. Availability of the solution is planned for January 2006. Stratus currently offers its own ft Linux® software, based on the 2.4.18 kernel, on certain ftServer products.
