Santa Clara, CA, October 12, 2005 - ZipLip, Inc., the technology leader in email compliance, and Nissho Electronics, a leading provider of advanced technology solutions, today announced a strategic alliance in which Nissho will introduce ZipLip's Unified Archival product suite to customers in Japan. The partnership extends the reach of the ZipLip archiving and compliance offerings further into the Japanese market, and marks Nissho's entry to the Enterprise Content Management market.
"Long-term electronic data retention and lifecycle maintenance is not only critical for business processes but also for regulatory compliance," said ZipLip CEO Kon Leong. We are pleased to partner with Nissho Electronics to deliver a complete suite of enterprise solutions to meet a broad variety of data needs. Nissho is a leading distributor with an excellent track record in bringing new technologies and products to Japanese market."
Regulations pertaining to the management and retention of electronic data are firmly entrenched in the US and now spreading worldwide. In the US, industries such as financial services and healthcare are required to retain and protect increasing amounts of data for long periods of time. SEC Rule 17a-4 requires that certain data be maintained "in a non-rewriteable, non-erasable format." Sarbanes-Oxley, which affects all publicly-traded companies, mandates corporate responsibility for financial reports and imposes criminal penalties for altering documents. In Japan, the Personal Information Protection Act, protects individuals' rights and welfare while preserving the usefulness of personal information. The Japanese Ministry of Finance is currently preparing a Japanese version of Sarbanes-Oxley.
"Due to heightened regulatory scrutiny concerning retention and protection of fast-growing digital assets, there is a great need for solutions that protect and optimize data storage environments," said Kojiro Koike, General Manager of Business Planning & Development Division of Financial Institutions and BPO Business Unit at Nissho Electronics. "Nissho chose to partner with ZipLip because of their cutting-edge technology, and because their solutions offer organizations the ability to enhance enterprise content management - improving efficiency while meeting regulatory requirements."
"The keen interest in compliance among Japanese enterprises is indicative of ZipLip's excellent timing for further market entry into Japan," said Leong. We are especially proud that the Financial Institutions and BPO Business Unit of Nissho is spearheading the penetration of the ZipLip products, leveraging their extensive experience and widespread customer base they have developed over the years."
