VeriLAN Installs and Monitors Wireless Network at IEEE 802 Meeting with AirMagnet Laptop Tool
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--July 25, 2005--AirMagnet, Inc., the leader in wireless LAN (WLAN) security and performance solutions, today announced that VeriLAN, a global wireless network designer, selected AirMagnet Laptop Analyzer 5.0 to set up, manage and secure its wireless network for the July 2005 IEEE 802 Plenary Session at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, held July 18 - 22.
VeriLAN had just 24 hours to build an entire wireless network with 60 access points (APs) and additional bridging radios to bring seamless wireless coverage to IEEE 802 members and attendees over four separate floors of the Hyatt. "AirMagnet's Laptop Analyzer is indispensable -- enabling us to get major wireless networks up and running in a very brief period of time," said Steven Schroedl, president of VeriLAN. "With Laptop we're able to confirm that our network design will actually provide complete wireless coverage prior to installation, streamlining our process and making network installation more efficient."
With 1650 attending IEEE 802 members moving about the hotel and requiring wireless access at all times, VeriLAN's network was pushed to the limit. During the IEEE 802 Session, VeriLAN used AirMagnet Laptop Analyzer to locate rogue and ad-hoc APs in real-time. Users operating in ad-hoc mode (acting as an AP) can cause local network outages that are difficult to find, making the immediate identification of ad-hoc machines essential to maintaining network reliability. VeriLAN also used Laptop Analyzer to audit the wireless network throughout the day and provide screen shots that enabled IEEE 802 leadership to view the hotel floor plan with graphic representations of RF coverage areas.
AirMagnet Laptop Analyzer provides real-time wireless security and performance troubleshooting for wireless network professionals and systems integrators. It includes integrated reporting, Voice over Wireless LAN (Vo-Fi) quality assurance tools and more than 130 security and performance alarms to help administrators quickly identify and solve network problems.
"As a wireless LAN solutions provider, it's quite an honor to serve the IEEE 802 -- the organization that drafted and published the 802.11 standards," said Dean Au, president and CEO of AirMagnet. "AirMagnet Laptop's unique ability to aid in both the installation and monitoring of a wireless network makes it perfectly suited for VeriLAN's task of managing wireless networks at industry meetings worldwide."
In addition to providing support for IEEE 802 meetings, VeriLAN uses AirMagnet Laptop to deploy and maintain wireless networks for all DSL Forum (DSLF), Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) and Network Processing Forum (NPF) meetings.
