Identrus Breakthrough Digital Certificate Technology Leveraged by IBM
Publication date: Wednesday, 06 July 2005

Identrus Will Provide Financial Institutions with Strong Authentication, Secure Data Transfers and Cost Savings for e-Business Transactions

SAN FRANCISCO--July 6, 2005--Identrus(TM), a global provider of trusted identity solutions, today announced that the IBM eServer zSeries operating system (z/OS V1R5 and higher) will provide users built-in digital certificates to conduct security-rich e-business transactions. IBM received official certification for its z/OS V1R5 and higher through the Identrus Compliant Program, which provides for secure and trusted electronic transactions.

IBM z/OS is a leading operating system used within financial institutions around the world. With the Identrus certification, IBM is empowering its z/OS financial services customers to provide strong authentication and a security-rich environment for e-business transactions, thereby helping to protect against electronic identity theft and fraud.

"Financial service providers are facing new security threats, and an increased demand for strong authentication," said Jim Porell, IBM Distinguished Engineer, IBM eServer zSeries. "Acknowledging our customers' needs, IBM has created a Certificate Authority model based on the Identrus platform. Our model is designed to extend the value of the mainframe within the financial services community to facilitate security-rich e-business transactions."

With the Identrus certification, financial institutions using IBM's z/OS version 1.5 and higher can serve as their own Certificate Authority (CA), enabling them to issue and manage the lifecycle of digital certificates in accordance with their security policies. This can eliminate the need for outside vendors to issue and manage digital certificates, helping users of IBM z/OS to streamline the procedure which may also result in cost savings.

"Identrus provides solutions designed to secure interactions where identity management and authentication is critical," said Karen Wendel, CEO, Identrus. "With a worldwide network of trusted identity credentials based on global standards, the Identrus platform provides an infrastructure for financial institutions, governments and commercial entities to manage the risks associated with identity authentication. With the Identrus Compliant Program, IBM can more easily extend identity solutions to financial institutions and their customers around the world."
