(Friday July 1 2005) Mobile value added service provider MTI is to use Matrix technology from CPS (Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd) to drive a new range of high accuracy location-based services to China’s consumer and enterprise market, it was announced today.
Shanghai-based, MTI turned to Matrix because of its ease of deployment, cost effectiveness and all environment coverage. The company has already launched a limited range of services but now plans to expand its portfolio to include:
- Smartman: an enterprise-focused application to improve field workforce management, dispatching and efficiency
- Kare: tracking of children and the elderly via a Matrix-enabled wristwatch or similar device
- Blackdog: targeted at the vehicle monitoring, insurance and logistics market – this service offers all environment high accuracy coverage via simple and discreet devices
- Traveler: a consumer-oriented service designed to provide localised information services for tourists and business people
MTI has already launched in Shanghai and intends to rollout services in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces imminently. Further regional rollouts of new services are planned in the second half of 2005.
MTI CEO Tony Zhao said: ”80 per cent of our applications are related to location based services. This can be from personal security to enterprise management. Accuracy and coverage are key requirements to the end user and CPS’s Matrix is the new technology wave to greatly improve such applications.”
CPS CEO Chris Wade added: “MTI is a perfect example of the new breed of service provider who are keen to capitalise on burgeoning demand for high accuracy location. They are choosing Matrix because it meets their needs for a low cost easy to deploy solution”.
“Their range of brand-led services is already gaining traction and they see Matrix as offering clear differentiation in what is becoming a very competitive market.”
CPS is already deploying its Matrix technology in the Chinese market and recently announced an integration deal with Eastcom, one of the country’s largest handset manufacturers, to Matrix-enable handsets and devices for the regional market.
CPS’s Matrix location technology enables any handset or device to be rapidly located to an accuracy of sub-100m. The modules use the existing GSM infrastructure to transfer location information to the network using standard GPRS or SMS. This greatly reduces the rollout costs traditionally associated with high accuracy mobile location technology.
Matrix will also work effectively indoors and in urban environments where satellite-based systems fail to perform and, because Matrix integration requires only a software upgrade to the mobile device, this technology provides cost and size advantages over GPS solutions.
About CPS:
CPS (Cambridge Positioning Systems Limited) delivers cost competitive high accuracy mobile location technology to the billion-strong customer GSM and emerging 3G/WCDMA markets. CPS’ products are based on its software-only Matrix technology – which delivers sub-100m accuracy, sub-3 second location fixes and all environment coverage. The product portfolio extends to Matrix 3G and E-GPS – a powerful combination of Matrix and GPS technology.
With network deployments of Matrix underway, CPS is working with the world’s leading mobile technology companies – including Nokia, HP, LogicaCMG and Andrew - to enable a new generation of high accuracy location based services and devices for enterprise and consumer markets. Headquartered in Cambridge (UK), CPS is funded by venture capital and strategic corporate investors. CPS’s value is underpinned by 20 key worldwide technology patents – one of the largest and most comprehensive IPR portfolios of high accuracy location technology in the world.
