AMD launches virus-protected processors
Friday, 4 June 2004 11:21 ESTAdvanced Micro Devices (AMD) has launched four new processors in the Athlon 64 processor family at Computex in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. The new processors feature an enhanced virus protection (EVP) capability for desktop and mobile computing enabled by the coming Microsoft Windows XP service pack 2. However, the new Athlon 64 FX-53, 3800+, 3700+ and 3500+ processors are already available worldwide. “AMD offers the highest performing PC processors today – hands down,” said Marty Seyer, AMD microprocessor VP. “Enhanced virus protection is an exclusive benefit of desktop and mobile AMD 64 processors, providing another layer of protection against many rampant virus attacks.”
Analyst Rob Enderle of The Enderle Group says there is a strong desire in the PC industry to secure platforms against the increasing assault of viruses and attacks. “As companies like Microsoft and AMD push towards the 64-bit platform, technologies that usher in a new generation of secure computing are invaluable to the industry as a whole.”
