By IT-Observer Staff
Friday, 15 April 2005 14:10 ESTCisco Systems Inc., the leader maker of networking equipment, is acquiring Topspin Communications of Mountain View for $250 million in cash and options, Cisco said Thursday in a statement.
Topspin makes fabric switches that connect computer servers to form grids, and provide the server grid with network and storage connectivity.
According to Cisco, the Topspin product line will extend its data centre switching portfolio that will complement its existing offerings.
“By adding Topspin's server fabric switches and virtualization software, alongside our industry leading portfolio of Ethernet and SAN switches we are able to offer our customers compelling end-to-end data center switching capabilities," said Luca Cafiero, Senior Vice President, Cisco Systems.
The deal is expected to close at the end of July this year.
