Microsoft settles with Burst for $60 million Author: IT Observer Staff Monday, 14 March 2005, 22:18 GMT Burst.com, a California software company, and Microsoft Corporation have reached "an agreement in principle" to settle a lawsuit on allegedly stolen multimedia streaming software. Under the agreement Microsoft will pay $60 million to Burst.com in exchange to dropping all claims by the latter. Microsoft will also receive a license to Burst's patent portfolio. Tom Burt, Microsoft's deputy general counsel, said: "While we were confident of prevailing in this lawsuit, we have been open from the beginning to finding a reasonable way to resolve this case.” According to Richard Lang, Burst’s CEO, Microsoft's decision to license the technology "validates the innovation of the Burst technology." |
