The trial against 2 Peer-To-Peer (P2P) network operators resulted in 2 convictions today. The trial is the first of its kind in the US.

Peer-to-peer networks bypass Internet service providers, allowing computer users to communicate one-to-one.

Both men pleaded guilty to numerous violations of copyright infringement laws.

According to Reuters, "William Trowbridge, 50, of Johnson City, New York, and Michael Chicoine, 47, of San Antonio, face up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 in the criminal convictions stemming from an August raid, the department said late on Tuesday."

Trowbridge ran the Movie Room network, while Chicoine ran Achenon’s Alley TM. Authorities were able to download more than $25,000 worth of copyrwritten material from their properties.

"Operation Digital Gridlock," was a joint investigation conducted by the FBI, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the Justice Department's Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section.

The two face sentencing on April 29 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
