Orange, CA (April 25, 2005) – 8e6 Technologies, a leading supplier of Internet Filtering and Reporting Appliances, will features its line of Internet Filtering appliance at Infosecurity Europe 2005 being held April 26-28 at the Olympia in London.
A recent report by the FBI/CSI on computer crime, showed that whilst 99% of businesses protect themselves with firewalls and anti-virus, a staggering 79% were still victims of security breaches & computer crime – a figure explained by the explosion of spyware circulating the internet.
While the original design of web filtering products was to limit pornography, enterprises of all sizes are seeing the value in filtering Internet content, including stopping Spyware before it infects the network. Previously, companies were often unaware that their network had been infected with spyware until the damage was done.
Companies are now looking to start blocking employee Instant Messaging (IM) and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) activity in addition to spyware. Web filtering and reporting systems have become one of the key tools in managing these new and dangerous threats to network security.
With IT departments looking for ways to reduce the amount of time spent managing Internet use, 8e6 and Netdata remain focused on providing stand-alone appliances that integrate easily into any network environment without the need to buy any additional hardware or software. 8e6 has been supplying quality filtering and reporting solutions for 10 years and is used in enterprise, SMB and education installations worldwide.
The product line offered in the UK by Netdata Plus includes several features that are unique to 8e6’s products:
• Software-Free Integration with NT4, MS Active Directory & LDAP – For filtering profiles and reporting by username or department.
• Real-Time Probe; allows an administrator to monitor a user's Internet usage in real-time to determine if that user is using the Internet appropriately. Reports generated by the probe can be e-mailed for further review.
• “X-Strikes” blocking; Administrators can set criteria for blocking a user's access to “unacceptable” Internet sites and lock-out a user’s workstation from accessing the Internet after the user makes a specified number of attempts to access such sites.
• Google SafeSearch; Can block access to inappropriate content within the Google search engine by forcing the Google SafeSearch mode ‘on’ for all searches, including images.
• Customer Feedback Module (CFM) – This “auto learning” feature sends the most frequently visited non-categorised URLs from participating customers back to 8e6 Technologies on a daily basis. The selected URLs will be reviewed and added to 8e6's standard library categories.
“We’ve chosen to feature Spyware at this show because we know our customers are still struggling to control it” said Eric Lundbohm, 8e6’s Vice President of Marketing. “A good web filter and web use reporting capability is essential to affectively battling Spyware”
