French Operator Mediaserv Chooses Cambridge Broadband’s Fixed Wireless Access Equipment

Cambridge, UK, 8th December 2004: Cambridge Broadband is providing its VectaStar fixed wireless access equipment to French operator Mediaserv, in a contract to supply base stations and customer premise equipment (CPE) over several years. Using its 3.5GHz licensed spectrum, Mediaserv has launched commercial services in the region of Martinique and Guadeloupe, and network deployment is continuing over the coming months.

Mediaserv is initially providing services to business customers, offering Internet, voice, leased line and virtual private network services. As the network grows, VectaStar customer CPE units will be used as wireless LAN access points, providing services to residential customers and small businesses.

Ehsan Emami, Mediaserv’s CEO, comments: “Our vision is to become the leading operator in our local markets, providing customers with a multi-service network. We chose Cambridge Broadband’s VectaStar equipment because it is the only product on the market that combines a high data rate of 60Mbps, quality of service management and real non-line-of-sight coverage.”

He goes on to add: “Our deployments to date have been a great success. We have thoroughly proven VectaStar’s non-line-of-sight capability and its multiple modulation schemes give us great flexibility in providing services. As a matter of fact, VectaStar will let us enter the WiMax era in the best conditions.”

Mediaserv has 3.5GHz licences in the regions of Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. The network has been in commercial operation in Martinique since April 2004 and in Guadeloupe since September 2004. Expansion of the networks will continue during 2005 with French Guiana added early 2005.
Zine Seghier, VP Business Development at Cambridge Broadband, comments: “We are very pleased that the network is now in commercial operation and that our VectaStar equipment has met the rigorous demands imposed by Mediaserv. We are continuing to work closely with Mediaserv to roll out more base stations, enabling them to quickly provide customers with high quality, flexible services.”

By the end of the year, Mediaserv will have installed 10 base stations and more than 200 CPEs.
