Business Continuity Expo 2006 to highlight how a corporate responsibility approach helps organisations to demonstrate good business management
Friday, 9 December 2005 12:01 EST
09 December 2005: "Recent events have highlighted that organisations truly aren't prepared to deal with the number of incidences affecting the day-to-day running of their business. Fundamentally, the issue is no longer simply ensuring business continuity in the event of a major catastrophe, what we need is a high degree of planning and preparation to ensure business continuity in what is likely to be a continuing tirade of business effecting events", comments Graeme Howe, Event Director, Business Continuity - The Risk Management Expo 2006.
Now in its third year, the UK's definitive event addressing operational risk, Business Continuity - The Risk Management Expo 2006 www.businesscontinuityexpo.com , sees the incorporation of Technology for Compliance, the UK's only exhibition specifically designed to address issues of regulatory compliance and Corporate Governance. With a focus on three key areas of risk management - continuity, security and compliance, the combined shows and high level conference will provide a comprehensive educational programme to help businesses prepare for the event of business failure.

Business Continuity, The Risk Management Expo 2006 exhibition
The free exhibition at the Business Continuity Expo 2006 features in the region of 130 market-leading organisations such Hitachi Data Systems, SunGard Availability Services, The Neverfail Group, InTechnology, GemaTech, Marsh, Computacentre and Synstar.
When physical damage occurs who will be clearing up the mess back at the office? How long will you need to be at your hot-site, and are you contracted to stay that long? On stand 600, BELFOR will be highlighting how an organisation's damage management contractor can influence how long their business continuity contingency plan can stay in operation.
On stand 229, Criticall will be making some global product announcements in connection with the launch of Version 3 of their EmergencyCall ASP service. EmergencyCall presents Criticall as the only emergency notification service provider to combine guaranteed SLAs with global enterprise functionality, covering multiple languages and multiple global dialling formats for voice calls. Criticall will also be announcing details of a generic API into EmergencyCall, which will enable them to deliver standards-based open integration with everything from IT Systems Management toolkits through to building management systems across the globe. Ian Hammond, Criticall's CEO, says: "2006 will be a landmark year for Criticall and our clients. Customer enthusiasm for these enhancements is surprising even us."
EMC Corporation (stand 610), provider of products, services, and solutions for information management and storage, will be presenting its proposition in helping businesses create the ultimate information lifecycle management company to enable them to get the maximum value from their information at the lowest total cost, at every point within the information lifecycle.
Telephony solutions provider, GemaTech (stand 304), will be showcasing its Business Continuity Manager (BCMLITE) solution at Business Continuity Expo 2006, offering an affordable and resilient business continuity solution enabling businesses of all sizes to instantaneously and seamlessly re-route all incoming calls, directed to geographic DDIs on an individual DDI basis to any alternative number and/or location, following the failure of their telecoms infrastructure, for whatever reason - fire flood, gas leak, road works, access denial, or as the result of a terrorist attack. GemaTech will be presenting an even more compelling proposition to this year's visitors to the show through its recent strategic alliance with COLT Telecom and access to BT's Digital Local Exchanges, whereby GemaTech can now offer their BCMLITE product to a much wider customer base.
Graham Chick, Chief Executive, GemaTech, comments, "We're living in an increasingly uncertain economy where the number of business risks is significantly rising. Without access to incoming calls from your customers - the lifeblood of any company - the cost to any business can be substantial, but telecoms protection is still taken for granted where continuity planning is concerned. The potential for GemaTech's powerful and flexible BCMLITE product is huge - especially when the ability to work from home, or at least closer to home i.e working from remote offices will become a necessity when planning for any kind of pandemic. The Business Continuity Expo is an excellent opportunity to heighten the awareness of the issues associated with business continuity planning; companies shouldn't be complacent and investment shouldn't be put off until next year, next month or even next week."
Data storage experts, InTechnology (stand 204), will be presenting its best-of-breed services to assist organisations to manage and protect their most important business asset - their data. InTechnology's services enable both commercial and public sector organisations to take control of their data in order to mitigate risks, manage change and complexity and reduce costs at the same time.
At the show, InTechnology will be demonstrating its VBAK automated data backup & restore service along with its pay-as-you-go email & file system data archiving service which identifies crucial business information whilst ensuring it is protected and recoverable in the event of a disaster or system outage, and available for rapid retrieval for regulatory or compliance purposes.
Iron Mountain stand 528, provider of outsourced records and information management services, will be offering records management services for both physical and digital media, disaster recovery support services, document process outsourcing services and consulting. Iron Mountain's services help businesses drive efficiencies and manage risks associated with legal and regulatory compliance, protection of vital information and business continuity.
Computer Security specialists, Remtech (stand 300), will be presenting its ModuSec solution at the event, which is designed to protect computer rooms and secure storage facilities from the damaging effects of external fire/heat sources, water and smoke. ModuSec also offers a choice of protection levels for intrusion and blast/explosion resistance.
Mike Lawrence, Managing Director of Remtech says, "At the Business Continuity Expo, we are planning to create further awareness that protection of centralised communications hardware is now vital to the survival of every organization due to the physical risks to sensitive hardware such as fire and flood damage and now increasingly vandalism, theft and blast."
StorageTek (stand 734) will be exhibiting its Information Lifecycle Management-based solutions that balance the cost of storing and managing information with the changing value of that information over time.
Laurence James, Marketing Manager, ILM Solutions, StorageTek, says, "International regulators have imposed legally enforceable requirements to retrieve specific types of data for several years - while medical records are for at least the life of the patient. The sheer volume of email traffic and the amount of crucial corporate information it contains has now made email archiving in particular one of the primary compliance issues for IT departments to tackle. But the importance and value of any piece of data does not stay the same forever."
The Neverfail Group (stand 518) will be showcasing their new Data Roll-Back Module (DRM) at the 2006 Show. Neverfail's DRM rolls back corrupted application data to a previous point in time when the data was in a consistent, accurate, and operable state, enabling the IT department to quickly and effectively deal with any disruption. Neverfail's DRM integrates with Neverfail Heartbeat, a low-cost, cluster-class solution that replicates data from an active server to a passive server in either a LAN or WAN environment, protecting applications against a wide range of potential failures. DRM utilises Microsoft's standard and proven Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) technology to provide more frequent shadowing of data. With DRM, storage requirements are minimised, as it captures only the differences between data and also allows consolidation of older data images.
Neil Robertson, CEO of The Neverfail Group, comments "Regardless of its cause, data corruption can quickly jeopardise an organisation's ability to operate effectively or at all. Neverfail is dedicated to providing comprehensive, high availability disaster recovery solutions that are affordable for both enterprise organisations and SMEs. Neverfail's DRM, integrated with our full line of application availability and disaster recovery solutions for the Microsoft platform, provides a truly comprehensive solution that protects data and keeps users connected to working applications. With high-availability systems now at the top of the agenda for IT Directors, Neverfail is ensuring that more and more businesses are protected from the potentially disastrous impact of IT downtime."
