D-Link launches a unique security product for advanced traffic monitoring in small and medium-sized businesses
LONDON – 17th October 2005 - D-Link, the leading provider of networking and communication solutions to the consumer, SMB and enterprise markets, has launched a new security product in its NetDefend range, which monitors information and applications within a network. The "Information Security Gateway” controls employees' use of unauthorised applications and traffic. The purpose of the product is to increase efficiency and profitability through enhanced security and optimised use of a company’s data network.
D-Link's new Information Security Gateway (DFL-M510) enables network administrators to monitor, identify and optimise traffic flows within a company network, typically supporting up to 150 users. The DFL-M510 minimises bottlenecks in the network, reduces potential threats and minimises the damage that could be caused within a company's network.
D-Link's Information Security Gateway (ISG) is integrated into the existing network and can be installed without changing the current network architecture. Using the DFL-M510, it is possible to manage the traffic flow generated by P2P applications, instant messaging, file transfers, e-mail and video etc., on an internal network.
It is also possible to identify and shut down malicious traffic including Trojans, Spyware, Adware and worms, based on rules that can be applied to special groups, IP numbers, subnets or hosts. Using D-Link's own Zone Defense technology – which is a form of proactive network security, the DFL-M510 also prevents and isolates threats, and quarantines infected computers or groups.
The DFL-M510 is the first of a new range of security products from the NetDefend range by D-Link. The DFL-M510 comes in a distinctive new product housing which incorporates a front panel LCD and keypad to toggle between status and monitoring information displays.
“IM and P2P applications are increasing in the work place and businesses need to be aware of the threats these pose in terms of viruses and worms entering the network,” said Balvinder Singh Phull, Marketing Communications Manager at D-Link. “The DFL-M510 has been designed to control and manage IM and P2P applications and in turn this allows better management of bandwidth in the business to improve efficiency and productivity.”
The DFL-M510 Features:
Transparent implementation requiring no changes to be made to the existing network. Compatibility with other standard network products.
High performance (22Mbps) through D-Link's ASIC chip for information control at Layer 7 level.
Transparent monitoring of various applications in real time, such as instant messaging, P2P, file transfer, video, media etc.
Blocking of Trojans, Spyware, Adware, Illegal agents (Softether), preventing them from spreading further through the company network.
User identification which allows the administrator to see exactly where the problem lies within the network. The network administrator gains an overview of the frequency and patterns of application use, right down to user level.
Bandwidth control.
System logs and can generate reports in HTML or PDF format, plus email alerts to the administrator.
Up to 4000 simultaneous TCP sessions.
Stealth mode and protection from DOS attacks.
* Zone Defense accessible in future software upgrades
