Sophos joins Anti-Spyware Coalition to help protect businesses from growing threat
Monday, 5 September 2005 18:01 EST
Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against viruses, spyware and spam, has today announced its membership of the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC). Sophos joins an alliance of technology companies and public interest groups whose mission is to create a consensus regarding spyware definitions, along with best practice in the debate surrounding spyware and other potentially unwanted software.
Protection from spyware is an integral feature of Sophos's anti-virus applications, which are amongst the few products to have been awarded 100% Checkmark certification for the quality of their spyware detection.
"With a history of protecting businesses against emerging threats, Sophos is committed to contributing to the standards and best practices that will help all computer users protect themselves from unwanted and dangerous software," said Richard Jacobs, chief technology officer at Sophos. "Sophos's global network of experts see over 500 new samples of spyware every month. The Anti-Spyware Coalition is helping to strengthen the online community against this growing threat."
"We are delighted to be able to welcome Sophos to the Anti-Spyware Coalition, and look forward to them bringing their expertise to the alliance," said Ari Schwartz, associate director of the Centre for Democracy and Technology, which has led the work of the ASC. "The participation of global companies like Sophos demonstrates the critical role that ASC can play, providing a focal point for industry-wide efforts against the spyware menace."
