Renowned security team launches a spam-fighting community to deter spammers and reclaim members' e-mail experience
MENLO PARK, Calif.--July 19, 2005--Blue Security, Inc. today launched the public beta of the Do Not Intrude Registry, an innovative, community-based approach to ending the problem of unsolicited commercial e-mail, or spam. Unlike existing solutions, the Do Not Intrude Registry calls upon people to form a community by registering at http://www.bluesecurity.com/register/pr and downloading the Blue Security "Blue Frog" to their computers. By enlisting the power of the community, Blue Security then takes a revolutionary, active approach to deterring spammers from sending spam to any member of the registered community.
"Only a few years ago, e-mail was a peaceful, friendly experience. A couple of hundred spammers have ruined that for everyone. I believe we can win the battle against spam and force spammers to comply with the Do Not Intrude Registry," said Eran Reshef, founder, chairman and CEO of Blue Security. "If enough people abandon the idea of passively filtering spam and realize that unrelenting action is required, we can together stand up for our online rights and reclaim the e-mail experience."
The Do Not Intrude Registry is inspired by the Do Not Call Registry that, by registering one's telephone number, puts a stop to unsolicited telemarketing phone calls. Unlike e-mail filtering applications, Blue Security takes an active approach that deters spammers by interfering with their ability to do business, compelling them to comply with the Registry and stop sending spam to Blue Community members.
The Blue Security Operations Center analyzes spam collected by its spam sensors and sends warnings to Web sites responsible for spamming Blue Community members. If warnings are ignored, the Blue Frogs installed on Blue Community members' machines automatically post complaints on the Web sites advertised by the spammers. For each spam message received by the community, a single complaint is posted. This ethical, yet effective procedure creates enough disruption to prevent potential customers from accessing the spammer's Web site. To avoid further complaint action, spammers are obliged to comply by following Blue Security compliance instructions and stop sending spam to members of the Community.
Early tests of the Do Not Intrude Registry prove that spammers are responding to the complaint actions. After receiving Community complaints, a number of spammers attempted to make changes to their Web sites, in a futile attempt to prevent the Blue Community from submitting further complaints. Other spammers, affected by the Community pressure, followed the instructions contained in the complaints and downloaded the Blue Security compliance tools. These early reactions by spammers demonstrate that Blue Security's deterrent approach is effective and that spam senders are "feeling the heat" from the Blue Community.
The Do Not Intrude Registry is safe, ethical and easy to use. Members' e-mail messages are not shared, viewed, inspected or filtered by Blue Security. The Blue Frog is fully automatic and does not interfere with users' work. To join the Do Not Intrude Registry, members simply register their e-mail addresses at http://www.bluesecurity.com/register/pr and install the Blue Frog on their computers. Personal subscription is free of charge.

About the Blue Frog
