HP feared Vole attack on Open Source

Two years ago executives in the smoke-filled board rooms of tin maker HP were coughing in terror that Microsoft was preparing to drown open source in a sea of writs.
A memo from HP's vice president of strategic architecture Gary Campbell reveals concerns that software giant would target Linux users in licensing law-suits over its patents.
His memo, which was printed on NewsForge here said that: "Microsoft is going to use the legal system to shut down open source software. We don't have to exit selling to the open source market, but we need to plan smartly where to reduce our exposure."
