Online attacks reveal security flaws


Unprecedented invasions of government and military computers have triggered a rapid build-up in security measures but officials have yet to disclose the nature and amount of sensitive material accessed by outsiders. The Ministry of Information and Communication announced a comprehensive strategy to address tech security Thursday, ordering Internet service providers such as KT Corp. and Hanarotelecom Inc. to report all identified hacking attempts and cut off such activities at the source.

Under the plan, the Communication Ministry will take steps at home and abroad.

It will form a task force with 226 Web companies and software makers to develop defenses against security breaches. It also will invest 21.4 billion won in the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute to support development of counter-hacking technologies.
