Microsoft slams another spammer


Microsoft has been awarded $4 million in court in California against a man it had alleged had been spamming users of MSN and Hotmail. Daniel Khoshnood and his company Pointcom Inc had been sending unsolicited email to convince users to download a toolbar onto their desktops. Koshnood had sent many emails purporting to come from Microsoft with such names as hottmail.com, wwwwindows.com, microsoftc.com, wwmsn.com, bcentrals.com" and windowsupdatenow.com, Under the pretence of being an official Microsoft email, he told recipients that their machine was infected with a virus and should go to windowsupdatenow.com

The Judge Manuel Real found that Daniel Khoshnood had broken various laws prohibiting using deceptive e-mail and Web addresses. He also ordering the defendants to pay damages, legal fees and cease any activity thast claims to be official communications from Microsoft.
