Hackers Target UK Businesses

Some 92% of UK businesses were attacked by hackers last year, new research reveals. The study was based on interviews with 7,000 business technology and security professionals in 40 countries. It found that in the UK, 92% of companies experienced "system downtime as a result of security attack or espionage in the past year". Around 87% of firms said viruses and malicious code attacks were a bigger threat than last year, compared with 80% across the rest of Europe.
But despite the growing menace, businesses are still not doing enough to defend themselves from the hi-tech assaults, experts warned.
UK firms spend less on IT security than its European neighbours, according to the 2004 Global Information Security Survey, published by Computing magazine.
