SCO Unveils Major Unix Updates

SCO Group has announced its release schedule for a series of updates to Unix and related products. The company says the enhancements represent one of its broadest product releases in several years. Chief among the upgrades is UnixWare 7.1.4. The solution, which is now shipping, supports thousands of Java and Web services applications. In addition, SCOoffice Server 4.1, scheduled for release in July, provides e-mail services, such as filtering and security. It also offers collaboration capabilities, such as scheduling and group sharing, and integrates with Outlook, as well as a variety of Web browsers.
SCO is also making a play in the embedded Unix market with its Smallfoot solution, intended for gaming, handheld computing , point of sale applications and other devices. It is a collection of tools to build the Smallfoot embedded Unix operating system.
