IT can change the world


There will be more change and innovation in IT in the next 10 years than in the past decade, said Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer in a speech at the company's Tech Ed event in San Diego. Although budget constraints and security challenges will continue to strain IT departments, change in the coming years will affect society more than the advent of PCs, broadband and cell phones in the past years, Ballmer told an audience of IT developers and professionals.

"I think the next 10 years will bring more positive change and innovation than in the last 10 years," Ballmer said. He listed natural language, artificial intelligence, improved search, mobility and interoperability as main areas of innovation. "We have a chance, all of us in this room, to change the world in a positive way," he said.
