How much IT security is enough?


The growing wave of virus infestations and e-fraud cases has highlighted the importance of improved IT security and anti-virus (AV) software. Industry experts will discuss how much security is necessary, as well as various other security issues – from both a local and global perspective – at the Futurex 2004 conference. Maeson Maherry, GM of Namitech security brand Namitrust, will provide a practical view of what businesses need in terms of security, including some of the fallacies and trends in the market. “I want to take a practical but scientific look at how businesses can direct their limited IT security spend; basically how they can get maximum bang for their buck.”

One of the key difficulties of the IT industry is that it is basically built from scratch. “It is one of the few industries that doesn't make a model before building. Imagine an engineer constructing a bridge without building a model first; there is nothing to work from.”
