Mass-Mailing Worms Mutants Strike Back


The unrelenting rash of mass-mailing worms resumed as the new variants of Bagle and Netsky worms were reported by a local anti-virus program developer. AhnLab on Thursday said two malicious programs of Bagle Z and Netsky AB made their way to Korea at the same time and are currently spreading across the nation via e-mail. Like its most recent forebear of Bagle Y, Bagle Z comes along jpeg files featuring attractive women's pictures and the rest of its characteristics are also quite typical.

The 26th mutant of Bagle uses randomly chosen subject lines like ``Hello'' or ``Hey'' and contains virus-infected attachment files with such extensions like exe, scr or zip.

Once the attachment is executed, they harvest e-mail addresses from the infected machines and use it as a base camp to send a bulk of e-mail.
