Tuning in to a wireless office says volumes


When a company decides to move from a traditional office layout to an open-plan design, it demonstrates more than just an architect’s fancy - it marks a fundamental change in how that business operates and how its staff relate and work together. To a large extent, form follows function, and adopting an open-plan approach is an announcement of a shake-up in the whole way a company does business. Hardie Caldwell, the Scottish firm of chartered accountants, recently moved into new offices at Glasgow’s Citypoint 2 development and its wide-open look and lack of walls speaks volumes about how a modern and innovative accountancy practice operates.

An integral part of the move was the installation of a complete new IT system, and the latest wireless technology now allows the firm to make full use of the flexibility in its new physical layout.

For starters, there is widespread use of wireless keyboards and mice, which use bluetooth technology to counter the crossed- signals problems which can plague such installations.
