Getting Certified in Open Source Applications

RHCE and RHCT are performance-based tests that measure competency on live systems in Red Hat Linux installation, configuration, debugging, systems administration and set-up of key networking services and security. A growing number of companies and government agencies around the world are starting to deploy Linux and other open source applications. Many see open source as a cost-effective alternative in addition to being reliable and secure.
In Malaysia, the open source movement is gaining momentum, says Patrick Siva, general manager of CSN Systems.
"Though we have no policies in place to support open source, the Government has identified it as a means of bridging the digital divide," he says.
Schools have been encouraged to look at open source as an alternative to the more expensive proprietary systems. Recently, the Affordable PC project which aims to equip every home with a computer offered an open source package, an indication that it has got appeal.
