Sun launches Java for Linux community

Linux developers now have access to a new java.net community. Launched by Sun Microsystems, it offers expanded support for Java technology-based development tools on the Solaris, Linux and Windows platforms. Sean O'Hare, Java systems engineer at Sun Microsystems, notes that the increasing adoption of Linux within the enterprise, as well as the pervasive nature of Java technology, make this a logical step for the company.

"Java technology has to be accessible to the broadest range of developers. Adding the Linux portal to java.net gives these developers access to an expansive community development and support programme," he says. At the portal, located at www.linux.java.net, Java technology developers can collaborate and access support for the creation of Java technology-based projects for Linux.
